As I am sure most of you reading this has heard by now, Dave Cockrum passed away this morning due to complications from diabetes.

He is known for his 70s work on DC’s LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES to his most famous body of work, Marvel’s THE UNCANNY X-MEN where he along with Chris Claremont re-introduced a title which changed comics forever.

On a personal note, I can still remember when I purchased THE UNCANNY X-MEN #107 when it first came out. At that time, X-Men wasn’t a hot title nor was Wolverine the popular character he is today. No, I bought this comic simply for the cover. I knew if the art inside was as cool as the cover, then it had to be good. I still remember reading it and having that “wow!” feeling when I was done.

As most kids my age did back then, I traded my copy away. But I never forgot how cool that issue was. Which is why I bought it again on eBay for a lot more than .30 cents. And it is worth every penny.

My condolences go out to Mr. Cockrums family.
