Hero By Night #3 is coming

(Courtesy of Hero By Night

Hero-Gram transmission initiated…

Hey everybody! Just wanted to bring everyone up to date on all things Hero By Night. There are a lot of plans swirling around for this year, and we’ll keep you up to date when the dust settles. Here’s the lowdown!

SECRET PACKAGE PROMOTION! – This is a random offer, and a little grassroots effort– my goal? To send some of our online comic readers into their local comic shops to help support them as well. How can I get you in your local shop? How about if there was a secret package there waiting for you with your name on it? Or possibly a coupon for that day when you first step into the shop– the goal being to get more people reading more comics, and supporting the WHOLE system. Comics needs us! If you’re interested in participating in this effort, all you need to do is email me your name and zipcode and I can locate the nearest shop to you.– then you wait for our email or “call to action” in your area. I promise that when the Hero calls on you, it will be a package worth going to get— email hero@herobynight.com with your info, or reply to this email.

PRE-ORDER ONLINE!- I’ve been listening to reader feedback and many of you have asked if there’s a way you can preorder the books online, and yes there is. While I’d rather you visit your local comic book shop to preorder, because ultimately it’s going to cost you less (no shipping!) I understand that many people don’t have a shop near them. Well, our ISSUE #3 is available for preorder TODAY, so take advantage of that, click the graphic to there and preorder.

BUYING DIRECT! — Again, while I encourage everyone to PLEASE visit their local comic shops to order our new titles, many of you have asked for sales direct or want signed books or special editions. I’m testing this out before possibly putting a bigger plan into effect where I might be able to do unique, limited t-shirts and other merchandise like rings, etc , but I wanted to let you know you can currently buy our issue 1 direct at 25% off at the Platinum Studios Store page– and for the serious collector of HBN, you can get a complete set of our original miniseries 1-4 CGC graded there as well. You know, to help put your kids through college! Hah! — And for people wanting signed books, I am currently offering a “direct from me” deal on those– to make it simple, just visit our main comic page and look for what I’m currently offering direct to fans from HBN HQ. – I only have a limited amount of certain things available, so check that out often near the “authors notes” section to see what I’ve got. Any profits I make directly from you guys I’m putting 100% of it back into promotion for HBN, so you’re helping to spread the word too.

EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS, SO THANKS! — We’re doing our best on our end to keep producing a high quality, entertaining comic for everyone– And we’re thrilled when we get great reviews back and knowing that you’re all enjoying it as well, it puts some fuel in our tanks– Every little thing you can do on your end helps us out a great deal, from upping our sales numbers with preorders to keep our books alive, right down to just visiting our site and reading the comic online at HeroByNight.com, and telling your friends about it – So thanks for everything, and please help us keep spreading the word about HBN. I know a great deal of our success relies on your participation, and I really see all of our fans as part of the TEAM. If there’s ever anything we can do for you, just ask, we’re an ear.

AAM Markosia announces The Boy Who Made Silence

Boy Who Made Silence

Winner of the coveted Xeric Grant, the debut issue of The Boy Who Made
Silence
was originally self-published by internationally exhibited
painter and creator Joshua Hagler. The series now has a home at AAM
Markosia, publisher of such titles as King Kong, Starship Troopers and
indie fav Headlocked.

In The Boy Who Made Silence, deaf child Nestor Gudfred inexplicably
creates utter silence around him, which compels the people near him
into each other’s pasts and memories. As his religious rural community
looks to him as a prophet, the story follows Nestor and a diverse cast
of richly imagined characters as he comes of age, falls in love, and
begins a search for his father.

The series has received advance praise from many of the best talents
in the industry:

“Hagler’s debut issue is an impressive start. Not only can Hagler
paint, but he has the proper focus on telling the story. It’s subtle,
understated work. And it’s beautifully reproduced — the colours are
rich and vibrant, in a way that makes everything else l’ve read this
week look washed out and cheaply printed.” — Paul O’Brien, X-Axis

“Brilliant, beautiful, original, authentic, and inspiring! One of the
best comic book reading experiences I’ve had in a long time.” — David
Mack, author and artist of Kabuki

“In his first work… Hagler finds his true voice. And this is just
the art alone, to say nothing of the moody and reflective
impressionistic story [upon which] he effortlessly floats us along…”
– Sam Kieth, author and artist of The Maxx, Zero Girl, Ojo

Persepolis nominated for an Oscar
Persepolis has been nominated for “Best Animated Feature Film” at the 2008 Academy Awards. Congratulations and good luck to Marjane and Vincent for their amazing work.

Caroline Records / EMI Music proudly present the film music for Persepolis, the animated feature film adapted from the graphic novels of Marjane Satrapi.

This young illustrator of Iranian extraction is a phenomenon in more ways than one. As a child she lived through the 1979 Islamic Revolution and its aftermath, then as an immigrant in Austria, she managed to combine clear analysis with a fierce sense of humor to describe her life and that of her country in four graphic novels, which altogether have sold over one million copies throughout the world. Together with Vincent Paronnaud, she also co-wrote and co-directed the film.

Composed by Olivier Bernet, the music for Persepolis is the perfect counterpoint to her books. All the key points of dialogue in the film are there, as well as heady instrumental pieces. The songs presented here vary from Iranian disco music and discreet piano ballads to orchestrations that are slightly far-Eastern or in the style of Serge Gainsbourg. As for the words, they accurately recreate the film’s melancholy and bite.

The offbeat version of Survivor’s Eye of the Tiger, sung by one of the film’s voice talents Chiara Mastroianni, is one of the album’s high points and conveys an instant charm.

The film, which initially opened in New York and Los Angeles on December 25th, won the 2007 Cannes Festival Jury Prize and is the official French entry for “Best Foreign Film” at the 2008 Academy Awards.
