NEWS: BEFORE DAWN online serialization begins

Posted by Wesley Craig Green / Head Cheese at Independent Propaganda

Today marks the beginning of the online serialization of BEFORE DAWN here on Independent Propaganda.

BEFORE DAWN was originally published a couple of years ago as a 64-page horror graphic novel by myself and artist, Jason Whitley. Even though it is still in print, I decided to make BEFORE DAWN the first “web comic” to be serialized here on the site. Plus, I think the zombie sub-genre has been lacking with the small number of zombie comics published over the last handful of years. That was a joke, by the way.

So every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I will post a new page from the graphic novel on the site. You can access these pages and learn more about BEFORE DAWN by going here or you can click here to read the first page.

ARTICLE: A San Diego Comic Con Retrospective with pictures *Updated*

Written by Richard Carbonneau / Writer for Independent Propaganda

In recent years the San Diego comic-con has become less of a place for comic fans and creators to come and celebrate the art as it has a multi-media frenzy.

Despite talk of dedication to the medium, the con features overwhelming exhibits of video games and movies. These have pushed the comic creators and publishers into a narrow alley in the middle of the hall, somewhere between the movie studios and the t-shirt vendors. It’s rumored that the cost of the tables for exhibitors next year will be so high, that most of the indy exhibitors will be unable to attend. Read more

REVIEW: SCHOOL: A GHOST STORY #1 & #2 by Brian Defferding

Reviewed by Matt Butcher/ Writer for Independent Propaganda

You can purchase both SCHOOL: A GHOST STORY #1 and SCHOOL: A GHOST STORY #2 at the Independent Propaganda Store

Whats this? New literature in my mail box? A manila envelope sitting atop my new back issue order from Mile High Comics? I tear the envelope, just so I could put all my comics in a pile. However, the contents of the envelope intrigued me on sight, far more than what I already knew was in the Mile High box.

The envelope contained the first two issues of Brian Defferding’s School: A Ghost Story, published by Deftoons! out of Appleton, Wisconsin. These comics were differently sized than I was used to, 8 by 8 square, and that seemed to stand out, as if telling me it was different.

ARTICLE: The Making of SOULDRIVER Part 1 by Jim Giar

Courtesy of Jim Giar

THE MAKING OF SOULDRIVER is a series of articles documenting the trials and tribulations of self publishing ones own comic/graphic novel..or…whatever you want to call it. Available in both widescreen and full screen and told in vivid color and excruciating detail by writer/artist and creator of his own self-publishing venture, Jim Giar. From gathering ideas to choices in publishing methods, he shall attempt to cover everything and anything. All while maintaining a strict, professional air of decorum. (Well….within reason.) And if he doesn’t have the answers… he can probably at least point you in the right direction. So jump on board and let’s watch the tragedy unfold. Come on! It’ll be fun. (Thanks to Wesley and Independent Propaganda. They’re the only folks that would have me.)

ELSEWHERE: Your San Diego Comic Con Linkage for Monday

Posted by Wesley Craig Green / Head Cheese at Independent Propaganda

And so it comes to an end. If you go by the multitude reports, this year’s SDCC was even bigger than last year’s. Not too many links so far today but I’m sure that will change in the days to come. Personally speaking, the biggest news to come out of the San Diego Comic Con which has me jazzed isn’t comic related.
