Creator Kyle Strahm describes his weekly CLOCKWORK CREATURE thusly: Intended as an exercise in storytelling, CLOCKWORK CREATURE progresses one page every week. Each new 5.5″ x 8.5″ page is completed in one or two hours and immediately posted online (there is currently no surplus). Throughout the week as I notice things about the current page I’d like to tweak I will do so. No page will be altered after a newer page is posted.

Proving the point that comics can tell a worthwhile story, Shooting War is a kick to the head about current world and political situations.

With GØDLAND nearing its first anniversary and Joe Casey and Tom Scioli’s cosmic superhero series continuing to attract rave reviews, Image Comics has announced that a trade paperback collecting GØDLAND #7-12 will hit shelves in late July.
Written by Casey with art by Scioli, GØDLAND has received increasing critical acclaim following the release of the GØDLAND, VOL. 1: HELLO COSMIC!TP in January, attracting some of the most glowing reviews of any Image superhero titlle since INVINCIBLE. Despite rising initial orders, inclusion in Diamond’s overship program and a commitment to overprinting, the first three issues have sold out and inventory on later issues continues to dwindle at an ever-increasing rate, making the GØDLAND, VOL. 2: ANOTHER SUNNY DELIGHT TP the ideal companion piece to the first trade for new readers.

Scott Pilgrim Mania

Yesterday saw the release of the highly-anticipated Scott Pilgrim and The Infinite Sadness graphic novel by Bryan Lee O’Malley, published by Oni Press. I admit, I was late to the whole Scott Pilgrim thing having just read the first volume, Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life last week. I do have to say it was perhaps the funnest, most entertaining read I’ve had in a long time.

BERKELEY, CA — 23 May, 2006 — Remember the first time a record sent a divine shiver down your spine or when a band changed the way you dressed forever? How does something that is just noises arranged in sequence do that? No one knows. It’s just… magic.
Music is literally magic - that’s the premise behind PHONOGRAM, a modern dark-fantasy miniseries debuting this August from Image Comics.
The debut miniseries from award-winning journalist Kieron Gillen (Plan B, Busted Wonder), PHONOGRAM features artwork by Jamie McKelvie (LONG HOT SUMMER) and is already being dubbed “one of the few truly essential comics of 2006″ by Warren Ellis, who added with caution: “Read this or lose.”

Surreal. Dream-like. Thought-provoking. All three words aptly describe A LATE FREEZE, Danica Novogorodoff’s award-winning mini-comic. Danica recently won The Isotope’s Award for Excellence in Mini-Comics earlier this year, establishing her as a creator to watch. And understandably so. Coming in at 48 fully-painted pages, A LATE FREEZE is much more than a mini-comic- it is an experience. Danica was kind enough to take time out of her busy schedule to talk about her beginnings, how winning The Isotope’s Award for Excellence in Mini-Comics has affected her life, and what lies ahead.

Dash Shaw’s work in GODDESS HEAD is a good try. It’s not as profound as it wants to be, but as it stands, this ambitious work falls short but doesn’t exactly fail.

One thing about reviewers is that we never usually have published credits in the field we are reviewing. Roger Ebert never directed a movie. I have never published a major comic. Sure, I’ve tried. I have a writing deal going on with Geekhead Productions that I think is a winner. It’s not listed in Previews (and may never be) so who the heck am I?
I’m a guy that has read thousands of comic books. If I could have majored in comic books in college, I would have. Instead, I now have a masters degree in English. I teach junior high school. I’m sure you’ve heard the cliché before about teachers: those that can, do; those that can’t, teach. Ha ha. Very funny.

Hi, Im Genevieve.
Cornelius, nice to meet you. Can I buy you a beer?
Sure.
She sidles up next to me on a stool. She smells good even over the stink of the professor who reigns proudly over his corner of the bar, never showering and always sweaty.
So what do you do, Cornelius?
And there it is. In the back of my head there are a million answers that I could offer. I’m passing through town with the circus (Im the fire-eater). I train dolphins to find underwater mines. I blow glass. Instead I just flash a crooked smile.
I write comic books.
